Flanking the first Masi Tupungato wine to be certified organic - Passo Blanco 2016 – is the long awaited new vintage of red wine, Passo Doble 2015. This too is the product of the ecosustainable oasis that Masi tends in the Mendoza region of Argentina, full of native flora and fauna and home to organic cultivation processes.
This organic Argentinian red wine was chosen by James Suckling for exhibition at the autumn “Great Wines of the Andes” events in New York, Miami and San Francisco. It has recently been awarded the coveted Five Stars award by the Norwegian web portal Vinforum and described in terms that praise both the production technique and the original tasting impressions of the wine:
Fresh and attractive high altitude wine. Cherry, dark forest fruit, dried fruit. Leathery, with a hint of oak on the nose. Good weight in the mouth, with balancing freshness and with beautiful fruit. Good concentration, with a firm, dry finish”.
Passo Doble (Malbec/Corvina) is a full-bodied red with unusual aromatic richness which, together with Corbec (Corvina/Malbec) and Passo Blanco (Pinot Grigio/Torrontés), forms the range of wines produced by Tenuta Masi Tupungato. Masi has found perfect conditions in this region to host two emblematic grapes from the Veneto - Corvina and Pinot Grigio – and marry them up with traditional local grapes - Malbec and Torrontés – to make wines with the strength and exuberance of Argentina. Production methods include typical Masi areas of expertise – such as the Appassimento technique – and are carried out on an estate that has been made completely ecosustainable.
